BALANI - A STORIED HISTORY
Peter Balani, founder of BALANI Custom Clothiers, first saw the movies of Cary Grant and Gregory Peck as a child and immediately became inspired by the world of bespoke men's clothing. At the age of 16, Peter set out to master the art of tailoring, measuring, and fitting custom suits. Peter traveled the world, established relationships with the top European fabric mills, giving him access to some of the most exclusive fabrics ever made.
Peter arrived in America in 1961, bringing his unparalleled craftsmanship, newly established industry relationships, and passion and knowledge of the suiting industry. He traveled from city-to-city to bring the finest fabrics and renowned tailoring straight into the hands of the business elite. Despite an unpredictable and volatile American economy, Peter ran the business successfully for over 40 years.
Having grown up in the business, Sonny Balani, Peter’s son, saw the impact that custom clothing could have on a man’s confidence, the way he was perceived, and the way he felt. When Sonny joined the business in 2003, with the goal bring his father’s gift to more people around the country. He believed that the best way of conveying custom clothing was through the experience the client received, the knowledge of style they were empowered with, and the way they felt wearing their first piece of custom clothing.
In 2005, Sonny set out to open BALANI’s first showroom in downtown Chicago. To build his team and further the brand, Sonny recruited the best people, training them with the same ideals and values that his father instilled in him so many years before. The model proved to be extremely successful as BALANI received numerous awards from various newspaper and magazine publications. By 2016, BALANI was in 7 markets with 35 people on its team. Today, BALANI continues to make clients look and feel their best, as we incorporate Peter’s passion, tradition, and heart into every garment.
